Preschool Week 19 ( Feb 10th - Feb 14th)

Preschool Week 19 ( Feb 10th - Feb 14th)

This past week was all about Valentines Day and Love.  We typically do a countdown with a banner I made a couple of years ago.  This year was no different except that we got waylaid and have not finished our countdown. The kids are enjoying it so we are chipping away at it slowly (besides you can never have too much love).

Our lovely banner.  Each heart has an activity inside.

Bible: We focused on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

We talked about each attribute listed in the verses and then made a poster craft.  I combined two ideas for this craft.  We used the Love Activities printables from 1+1+1=1 and the Handprint Heart tree craft from here.

First, they traced their arms and I cut them out.  Then we glued them to the paper and they added all the hearts with the attributes written on them.

Silly faces and their finished poster.  Hannah asked afterwards if we could keep the poster and put it up every year.  She warms my heart and make me smile.

Reading:  Books, Books, Books

At least this week I have a picture to with this section.

Language Arts and Handwriting:  The Letter P.

A lot of goofy faces this week.

Printing the letter P.

P is for Pig

Math:  We did quite a few different math activities.  Several took only minutes to complete and were valentines day related.

Patterns with X's and O's

Counting beads onto pipe cleaners.

They both enjoyed this far more then I would have guessed.  Relaxing work I guess.

Sorting and Graphing with heart erasers.

Valentines Day Cut and Paste puzzle by number.

Art:  Making Valentines with the stamped paper made last week.

Ethan's Valentine for Papa. He wrote Papa all by himself.

Science:

The amaryllis finally bloomed! So pretty.  They were so excited when it began to open, surprisingly it took a good 3 days to open completely.

For Christmas Hannah got an instant snow experiment that we finally did this week.  We just added water to the white powder and it turns into something that looks just like snow.  It feels really strange though.  I don't like how it feels but they do.
Playing with the fake snow.
Ethan did a lot of squishing with it.  Hannah made snow castles (sort of worked).

While they played, we talked about what it was like and how they knew it wasn't really snow (it's not cold and it doesn't melt).

Next week we will play with the snow again and try a few things with it.

Just For Fun:

Tongs, cups and Lego what more do you need for some fun.

Ethan stringing shapes onto a lace and Hannah playing with their magnetic story board.

This is where Nathanael hangs out during our activity time.
